Resize an image to a specific KB target

A general-purpose compressor: pick a photo, enter custom dimensions and a maximum KB, and the tool encodes until it verifies the exact bytes. Works for job-application photos, exam forms, and signature images on any portal.

Custom output settings

Custom values are not official-preset compliant. Physical units convert using the chosen PPI; density metadata is not claimed for a custom profile.

How it decides quality

  1. 1Choose 'General resize' and continue.
  2. 2Enter width, height, and the maximum KB shown by your target form. A maximum of 600 KB or lower is typical for portals.
  3. 3Crop, adjust optionally, then prepare. The quality search runs a bounded binary search over JPEG qualities until the output is under your cap.
  4. 4If even the smallest quality stays over the cap, the result is marked over-limit rather than a fake pass; rebuild with warning, stronger compression, or another source file.
  5. 5Download and verify against your portal.

Byte definition used

The tool defines 1 KB as 1024 bytes and reports exact bytes; the explanation tooltip is included everywhere a cap appears.

Both panels above come from the same reviewed registry — see the full table with sources below.

Common questions

Is '20 KB' here 20,000 bytes or 20 × 1024?

The tool reads 20 KB as 20 × 1024 = 20,480 bytes and shows the exact numeric cap. Third-party portals that mean 20,000 bytes accept 20,480, but the reverse is not true — if a portal says 'no more than 20 KB' and rejects 20,480, set your custom cap to 19 KB.

Custom cap vs official presets?

Official presets (Protean DSC) carry source links and validation labels. Custom sizing gives full control but exports are marked 'not an official preset'.
